Geek Question of the Day: Well technically, there is no question tonight, sorry! I wanted to take a break to deal with the mûmakil in the room, that being the closing of our home, G+. I think most of us knew the day would come when Google would be discarded like an old toy when Google's attention wandered away. In fact, the entire reason I've built up geekquestioner.com is as a hedge against this very thing. I refuse to let our community die if there is anything I can do to prevent it!
The fact is that our geeky community has been growing and thriving here, despite the mass exodus throughout the network. That being said, it's very clear that our days here are numbered, so I'm using this post to let you all know that as of October 31st the G+ threads will no longer allow commenting. All answers will have to be posted here on geekquestioner.com from that point forward. This will include the Geekscapes as well.
I realize this will cause some massive disruption but, I hope we can weather it together. I've set up the site to be entirely ad free and am using the Disqus commenting system which will allow you to post using Google, Twitter, Facebook, or Disqus accounts for authentication. I'll be needing to lean on you all a lot more as I'll need some volunteers to be moderators and signal boosters.
Eventually I will stop posting to G+ altogether (not sure about the date), so you might want to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or via RSS so you know when a question or Geekscape goes live so you can chime in!
All The Ways To Follow Are Here:
(I'll be adding more options as needed)
I just want to take a moment to thank all of you for sticking with me for all these years. We've been a tiny tent city in the middle of a wasteland for too long. I would like to think that, once the dust settles, we'll be able to not only thrive, but grow as a community. Your collective wit, humor, and diversity of thought has changed my life in ways I never dreamed of and all I can say is thank you. I hope to see you all on the other side of this migration! =)
